[Uendo blinks. He's been staring blankly at the empty tea pot for... he's not sure how long, exactly. When did he come to the kitchen?
He hasn't been doing well since the doll museum, frankly. It was more or less fine at the time, thanks to Kisegawa fronting through that whole mess. But the shock of seeing Shisho's body again, after all these months of trying not to think about it, trying not to remember...
Nights have become especially bad. Even if he manages to fall asleep, the accusations always work their way into his dreams, too.]
...Oh! Good morning! [The smile snaps into place and he hurriedly moves to actually make the damn tea.] Eggs sounds lovely, thank you.
[Maybe if Okuyasu is busy making eggs, Uendo will be able to stop dissociating by the time they sit down for breakfast. Maybe.]
[Uendo is back to his cheerful mode so quickly after the museum, like a controlled, mature twist on Okuyasu's mood swings. There's something incredible about being around an adult who knows how to switch gears depending on the situation.
Even if he is spacing out at breakfast. Maybe he's tired.]
Wanna do tamagoyaki? It's my reward for getting through that museum.
[He pulls out a container of eggs and slides the sugar bowl next to the range.]
[The answer comes out on auto-pilot. Uendo's had years of practice maintaining small talk while his mind is only half-present. Most of it comes from rakugo training; you're always there to entertain, even while you're off stage. And you certainly never let people know you're not 100% in control of your life. It's probably not healthy, but what can you do.
...What was he doing again? Right. Tea. Black tea with milk for Okuyasu. 100% in control.]
[Okuyasu goes through the learned motions of cracking eggs and adding the sugar. He might not be good at anything, but he knows how not to go hungry. Everyone has to pull through in the household, else they're dragging everyone down. Keicho may have been a bad person, but he was smart.
He fumbles through the drawers for a moment when he realizes he didn't get all the equipment needed.]
